How can I enlarge the icons in the lower right hand corner of the screen on the task bar in Vista? I was able to enlarge the icons on the desktop and also in the Quick Launch tray, but they are all different I guess, and the icons in the lower right hand corner of the task bar are still tiny. Here's a picture of what I mean:

I have searched for ways to enlarge these icons but all of the suggestions that I have found so far refer to the desktop or the Quick Launch tray, not to the task bar. I would appreciate any additional suggestions for the lower right hand corner of the taskbar. Thanks in advance.

    It's called the SysTray.
There is no built in way to enlarge them other then adjusting you over screen resolution.

You can make them larger by dragging the broken vertical line to the left of the search box towards the left.

I just tried that, and actually closed the search box so that there is nothing in the System Tray from the broken vertical line in the middle of the screen to the icons on the lower right hand corner, but the icons themselves are the same (tiny) size.

It seems odd to me that there is no way to adjust them, as Steve said, but unless somebody else has any ideas, I guess that's the case.

I've looked again at your image and it looks double height, am I right?

If so, unlock the taskbar and drag it to single height, which should enlarge the icons.

BurrWalnut, it's true the icons are double height, but the task bar refuses to go down to single height. I suspect that's because I made the Quick Launch icons larger (on the left). The task bar will go UP to triple height but that doesn't help any because the icons remain the same size regardless of whether it's double or triple height.

    Roger,

If you want to make everything appear larger then what is the problem with Steve's suggestion regarding reducing screen resolution?

Here are two of many freebies to give you an idea of what's out there:

Tray Commander is a multifunctional utility that lets you run your frequently used programs, files and more directly from the system tray. It adds a single icon to the tray which, when clicked, displays a customizable menu that contains the shortcuts you selected. It offers commands to open and close your CD drives, reboot, shutdown your system, run any of your favorite applications, launch any selected screensavers. send emails to specified recipients, open folders and more.

system tray and lets you access your favorite programs and files with a couple of clicks. You can completely customize the menu, select the applications, documents, web sites to include and also organize them in sub-menus. Furthermore, you can pick a custom tray icon, and the program integrates into the Windows Explorer right click menu to quickly add new items. Additional features include support for command line parameters, batch launching and window states (maximized, minimized, hidden) for each entry.

Thanks to Steve for the freebie suggestions. I'll investigate them. To Wildfire, I wasn't sure what to say about the screen resolution. I'm setting up a new system for a friend and the monitor information says that optimal resolution is 1440x900 and that's what it is currently and so I didn't want to change it from the optimal (although I'm not sure how much difference it makes). So I think I'll investigate the freebie suggestions and let it go at that for now. Thanks to everybody for your suggestions and help.
