    Using WinXP.

Would like to have two "modes" on the computer, one for regular internet, word, excel type stuff and another for offline gaming. Is it possible to create two users \ profiles in WinXP where in one of them I can disable nic, antivirus, and other non-essential resource using applications?

    Cheers :)

Might want to look at Control Panel->SYSTEM icon->Hardware tab-> "Hardware Profiles "

How do I know if a change (disable anti-virus) affects only current hardware profiles or all hardware profiles? Trial and error, or are there any rules?

When you disable the AV it will probably give you options of when it restarts. It should restart automatically when you restart the computer.
