System32 problem list

My computer begin to experience problems when some spyware invaded. I have been able to rid myself of the "warnings" and McAfee says I'm now protected against virus intrusion. However, a plethera of problems exist:
Any browser chosen will display a secondary search entity (such as marketplace) when I select a web site in the search results. Sometimes I can go to the chosen web site if I copy and paste the URL in the address window. But, not always; sometimes I get the same search results rather than a web site. I have tried to rename my CATROOT2 folder, but I'm told I can't access the folder. When I try to activate the McAfee firewall nothing happens. When I try and download anything at all from the Microsoft site I get either "Cannot make a a connection" (Mozilla) or "IE cannot display the page" IE. I have done all things suggested in the IE message such as checking LAN settings, etc. But, nothing has worked. I'm sure the problem resides in system32 somehow. I would appreciate any assistance.

When I click "here" to download the RSIT.exe I get the "cannot display page" message

 

Can you download it on another system, and transfer it across to the problem system?
