I know its not on Home Basic or Home Premium as a standard.
Is it possible to get it somewhere as an addon/addin?
Seems like a good thing to have

Seems like acronis 9.1 and up will work with vista but have to do a
system recovery or something like that.
    thanks,

My Home Premium has it. Not much good to me though.

    Start\Maintenance.

    I'm using Norton Ghost.

    mopar,

I'm not talking about restore points but a system recovery. Are we
    talking the same thing?

Initial recovery cds can be created but some where i read that a full system backup/recover (anytime you want to do it ) was not
included in Basic and Home Premium. Since i don't have my system yet (back ordered, of course), i'm having to go by the
    system guides.

Quite possibly i'm mixed up about this.
Sorry but I'm definitely not a norton fan as far as a virus
checker anyway. No experience with other norton products.

    thanks for replying,

    Hi Savagecl,

I can thoroughly recommend Acronis True Image even though it is not free.

It is reliable and easy to use, no system restore is needed before, I just do a clean-up of junk files etc, and a make an image to an external HD once a week.

Not real sure what you you're asking. Have a feeling You're not sure what you're asking:eek:

Most all new store bought computers come with a recovery partition versus sending a cd/dvd with an OS to resintall Windows. The recovery partition allows you to reset the pc back to new/fresh out of the box status....Some recovery partitions allow you to make cd's incase the hard drive dies.

Vista Ultimate takes the above one step further. It has built in imaging software similar to Acronis...You can create an "image" of the entire hard drive to another drive.

All of the above is different then the built in "backup" function that allows to to make a copy of important files. Pretty sure all versions of Vista has the backup function.

That's a good deal - cheaper than the upgrade from previous version :)

Agreed. Acronis has saved me weeks of work just by a simple "Restore" run.

Think that maybe the Ultimate (vs Home difference) image to an
other HD was what i was referring too. This would be nice for all
    versions.

Yes, $25.00 for Acronis is a good price and well worth it. My
current version (9.1) has saved me several times in the past
and I expect it will again. Just trying to clear up the need to do
a vista windows "refresh" after running acronis restore . So far
no one from acronis has made a definate answer one way or
the other but their forum members has some comments.

Thanks for clearing Ultimate vs Home difference,
    savagcl
