How can I restore my autoexec.bat file? It was backed up as autoexe.nav. Where can I find it and how do go about restoring it.

I installed a program that needs modification to the autoexec.bat to run. I then realized that was slowing my system down, so I uninstalled the program. Now I want to restore my old copy.

By default, XP doesn't use the autoexec.bat file like Windows 98 does...XP normaly has an autoexec.NT file located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder that can modified if needed.

I installed a program Unreal Tournament (Heat) which could be like for Win95. It asked me to modify autoexec.bat so your saying that xp does not even use that file?

It said it created a backup so I wonder where that would be.

Search your C:\ drive for .bak files - that is the common backup extension in these cases.

    Alternatively search for autoexec.*
