Just got the gateway FX6710-01 with vista 64 bit OS.
Plugged everything in according to directions and powered on.
Dell Monitor 2405FPW does nothing, light stays orange instead
of turning green. I have tried both VGA and DVI with no results.
These conditions indicate that no video signal is being received.
Unplugging the monitor from PC and turning it on does show the
self test (for both VGA and DVI as it should). Monitor works fine
    using XP (SP4).

Looking through Dell site turned up nothing helpful except to
check your computer, monitor is working fine.
Kinda hard to debug if nothing shows onscreen.
    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    savagcl

Sorry, just noticed you're only speaking about the monitor it was the vista 64 bit that threw me and I was thinking a complete system. Ignore my previous post.

How many graphics adaptors does the system that the monitor doesn't work on have? Do you see anything at all during POST (BIOS tests)?

  3. to hide this advert.

On the XP system, there is only 1 adapter - nvidia gForce 6600 GT.

Can't tell about the vista sys.

I dont get anything on screen during POST boot up. The screen doesn't
even brighten up, just stays dark.

One thing - on the tower, the start button fades in and out (i.e., not a steady light (if this helps?).

    thanks for quick response wildfire,

    Fair enough.

Can you count the graphic connectors on the back of the system?

Have you tried using the front panel connectors to switch input modes?

Does the system work with another monitor?

Not really (but see question above), what model is the Tower?

No problem, hopefully we'll get this sorted.

    1. There are 3 monitor connections available - 2 DVI and 1 VGA, i tried all of them.
    2. Front panel (on monitor) is set to DVI. Ialso tried the VGA on the monitor. Monitor
setup is ok (presently set to DVI.
    3. Unfortunately, only 1 monitor available.
    4. Should have mentioned the tower model before - its a Gateway FX6710-01.

I started from scratch and went through all the connections again, same result.
Talking to gateway support, their recommendation was to return it for a
replacement............. So much for quality control, eh!

    Thanks for the help, wildfire.

That's normally an indicator that the system is in standby state.

Thats what i thought but it would never come out of standby. Nothing i did
    seemed to wake it up.

Its back in the box with a replacement on the way.

    thanks,

I just read that sometimes vista will be delivered in sleep mode......

The users guide says to "move the mouse, press a key on the
keyboard or press the power button. If it stays in sleep mode,
press the power button again ". All of which I did with no results.

Is there a trick in getting vista out of sleep mode?
I'm asking because now i suspect the replacement system will
also come in sleep mode and i want to be ready if there is a
    work-around.

    thanks,
    savagcl

Yes, keep pressing the power button, this should cause a reboot. On startup you will be asked if you want to delete the saved information, say yes & the system would boot normally.

    Arie,

Will keep that in mind when the replacement gets here.

Altho i must have done that 20 times at least on the first system to
    no effect.

Just keep pushing until no fingernails left :)

    thanks Arie,
