    greetings folks,
I have a question about a file I found in the system 32 directory and I was wondering if any one could fill me in on it. I searched google and various forums on the subject and now I figured I would post here as my first post.
Dont feel bad if you can not answer it ,as I usualy figure things out on my own and by the time I get around to asking for help the question stumps most people.
so getting to the question ... Its an ms dos aplication in c/windows/system32 and its called more.com.
I dont rember seeing this before and wonder what it is.
    any thoughts?

If you aren't sure what a file is about, the first thing you should do is right-click the file & examine its properties. In this case you'll see it is a Microsoft OS file.

It's a program from the MSDOS days mainly used for paging files eg

    Code:
      type bigfile.txt | more

would display bigfile.txt one page at a time, FWIW it's also in my system32 folder (why I can't say) with a timestamp of 14th Apr 2008 12:00 and size of 16896 and I'm fairly sure my system is clean (or should I now be worried :) )

By the way I'm using WinXP SP3

It's a command that still can be used at a command prompt; that's why it's there.

    But it's not 32bit :p

Pedantic I know, perhaps I should have made my post clearer. Sorry. ;)

It was the .com part that worried me. Like I said in the original subject line I was paranoid and wondered if it was suPposed to be there. Maybe it came in sp3 I don't. Know. I try to keep an eye on things but one can not keep up these days. And just because it says its a ms file that does not make me any less concerned when I see some thing new in my computer I did not install.

It's always been there heywood, you've just never noticed it before ;)

There's nothing wrong with being vigilant and a little paranoid where malware is concerned though. It's better a false alarm than ignoring a real threat.
