I am using windows xp pro sp3 and I just got this computer from a friend so I went and reinstalled windows on it. I have installed my drivers but when tryoing to connect hardwired into the touter I get the unable to contact your dhcp server. request timed out..
I have also tried the winsocket fix but that doesn't work. I have tried both of my NIC card in the pc as well. Both of the other pcs that we have are running no problem on the network.
also my TCP/IP settings are set to auto configure

Have you tried manually setting the TCP/IP settings? If you give us the internal IP address of the router, we should be able to give you some settings that should work.

    OK. Set your PC as:

    IP: 192.168.0.221
    mask: 255.255.255.0
    gateway: 192.168.0.1
    DNS: 192.168.0.1

Then see how you get on.

If that doesn't get you network connectivity post back the results of the following:

    ping 127.0.0.1
    ping 192.168.0.221
    ping 192.168.0.1
