    Hi,
I have started win xp home setup, formated partition in NTFS successfully, then windows copies the files and goes through the normal reboot. After reboot Windows splash screen appears then I see "setup is restarting" and that is it, nothing else happens after that? Please help

Did you eject the xp cd just before restarting?

yes, but then I see the windows splash screen, then setup is restarting in a window that sort of looks like the mini setup in sysprep. then blank screen, nothing after that.

XP has no problems with the sata drive, it see's it and i get no errors regarding it. As I said I am able to Format it in NTFS and setup copies the files and I get prompted for reboot afterwards. After reboot i get the win xp splash screen then the setup does not continie. All I see is " setup is restarting" I check the Acer Europe website for this model, and looked for SATA drivers for xp to no avail. I believe XP has the drivers needed to see the drive cause I have no problems seeing it when I start the xp setup. Perhaps the bios version is for Vista only, so I tried looking for an XP version but have been unable to find one. Looks like i will be staying with Vista.

    neilvw,

I've got to believe that an XP installation on this machine is possible. In fact, my curiousity got the better of me and I poked around some on Acer's European site and saw references to XP under your 5570. There was also a pre-installation security patch available for XP.

My initial thinking was that you may need to flash your BIOS in order to accomodate an XP installation and I found numerous BIOS revisions available on their FTP site but I didn't see any write-ups on Revision history so it didn't provide any answers to me. I finally got bored and went on to something else but I would encourage you to search further through Google or Dogpile and look for an XP compatable BIOS as a possible answer to your dilemma. This is speculative, but its one thing I'd investigate if in your shoes.

Another thought - Most of those Aspire laptops have a hidden partition used to restore your original factory setup which can be accessed using the F2 key on startup. It is possible (again, speculation on my part) that something in that hidden partition is preventing you from successfully completing an XP installation. I hesitate to advise this because it will negate your ability to ever recover the factory installation, however, you can try removing this hidden partition along with your Vista partition, then remaking one partition only using your XP CD, formatting the drive in NTFS and then attempting the installation.

    Good luck
    ;)

It's all just a great advertising scam. I just bought an Acer Aspire 7535z and it's like a sample bag - 60 day trial of Office, 60 day trial of McAfee, 60 day trial of ...etc etc.

Can't even uninstal Office - won't let me. I've got my own copies of the progs I want, I don't need Acer to shove them down my throat.

I wonder how much $$ MS, McAfee etc sling Acer (and others) to attempt to force these apps onto their customers.

Trying to find XP drivers for it is nigh impossible - Acer don't/won't give them. I've found others around the net but am a little wary of them.

Amen Brother ........ And, the sad part is that this approach has been very effective in wooing consumers.

One can get rid of all that garbage but its a Royal PITA. Technically, I think its referred to as "Crippleware ", a most descriptive nomenclature.

    ;)
