Okay, I'm pretty much a scrub when it comes to networking - most of my work has come from going to people's houses and fixing their sole computer, or just making sure all the comps in the house are connected to the router.

I picked up a book that teaches for the 70-270 exam for XP Pro, thinking it'd be a good place to start. Chapter 1 had a question that already made no sense. Can you point me in a direction to get an explanation why this is the answer?

The answer was, from left to right, DNS Server and Domain Controller.

At the very least, I knew the Domain Controller went up there (lucky guess from context clues), but I had it on the left. I guessed wrong with the second option.

Why is that the right answer? And where should I be looking to learn if I botched a question in chapter 1 like that? Probably not Windows XP Pro exam books...

    Hi CUISTech,

It's refreshing to read your posts, ie I don't want answers I want to know how to get answers. Keep up the good work you will get there.

A good start for networking can be found here.

And always remember Google is your friend.

You never learn anything if you don't look it up, or do it yourself. When someone tells you to do something, always ask why, or you just wasted an opportunity.

That being said... my google-fu is weak. I end up getting more products and retails sites whenever searching for something - it doesn't seem to matter what - on google than actual answers to my questions. >_<

The secret is be selective, for example your query involved "Basic Networking ", that's what I googled and supplied you with the first Hit.

Use quote's where appropriate, + and - etc

    e.g.

You need information on the latest super duper IT device but you don't want to buy at the moment, then search like this

    + "Super Duper" + "Review" - "Shop" - "Store" - "Buy "

Hopefully that'll give you some insight.

    EDIT:

You may want to look here regarding searching, it's for google.co.uk but I'd imagine google.com is the same.
