I have installed XPSP3, assume all auto updates are included up until its issue earlier this year, can the subsequent auto updates be located anywhere on the hd? Thanks

Automatic updates are downloaded to a temporary file, installed and then the temp file is removed. For those updates which can be installed (listed in Add/Remove Programs) the uninstall information is in C:\Windows - enable Show hidden files to view.

If you want to retain copies of the updates for manual installation they must be downloaded manually to the hard drive through the Use Administrator Options on the opening Microsoft/Windows Update page.

I just recently installed SP3 preinstalled as part of a purchased OEM disk. Went to Windows Updates and there were more than 35 severe and security updates they said were needed for my system. Shouldn't they have been included on disk? Most were for SP2.

Your CD would include all updates up to the date of manufacture of the CD - those that you are offered were all issued subsequent to the date of CD manufacture.
