Ok clearly vista was made to make it nearly impossible for you to record any sound other then your mic I have tried everything I could think of to make it work but I couldnt get stereo mix or what you hear options out of vista. I even went out an got a new sound card a creative sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio tried checking all that stuff to show hiddin stuff under the sound controls I just dont get the options and yes my sound drivers are up to date I checked them before coming here.

So now im back to my last option I used ages ago however I dont want to fry my sound card so thats why im here.

What I want to know is can I setup a spliter for my sound output then split one line to my speakers and the other line back into the sound card directly into the Mic jack an not worry about having the sound output jack sending power to the mic jack creating feedback frying my sound card?

...I think I typed that all right... To sum it up I wanna know if I can loopback the sound without creating some kind of power surge

Hi there ac19189, I am sorry but I just can not work out what it is that you really want to do.
You want to record but what and from what source would you like to record.
If you could give some more detailed information then someone should be able to point you into the right direction.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do either but you have several input options available without trying to run through the microphone input. Read the How To on the Creative web site specific to your card. If you have a particular task that you need help with and want to be more specific, please post it. Personally, I wouldn't run a splitter or Y cable in the way you are attempting but its not because of fear for feedback frying the card.

Ok to sum it up I have a feed going into my computer that comes from my drums and other things I have hooked up to my computer I play something on the drums an it plays right through my computer speakers just fine howerver for some reason i cant get vista to record the sounds. This is one of the many things I normally record I also record the sound from youtube video/websites for personal use in stuff such as making it into a mp3 and using my deck to mix it.

I use to do this really easy with xp howerver vista and its anti piracy **** has removed the "what you hear" and or the "stereo mix" "Wave out" options from your sound control panel on a list of possible things to record iv tried everything people have recommended to me in attempts to get thoughs options back but I cant soo my next best option is to split my sound output(green jack) into two female jacks then hook one jack up to my stand alone speakers that run via aux and then loop back the sound into my mic jack (blue jack for some odd reason) so I can then record sound...

What I want to know is do i run the risk of frying my sound card by looping the sound from the output jack back into the mic jack

I have a little experience (dangerous?:D). Look at Signal vs Power. Do you want a loopback so as to give a good Signal? Would you be better off looping back through your mixing desk?

There is a small amount of power supplied to provide an output signal for a speaker system. There is power supplied for running a microphone. You may need to supply more power to run the microphone if it is not a "headset" type...maybe you need to get an interface/adapter for the microphone to run it.

As I said, if you have enough connections on your mixing desk, use that for your
    loopback.

    ac19189,

Thanks for the added explanation - as they say outside of the classroom - I have now acheived "understandment ". I'm going to assume that you are using aux as the infeed for your "drums and other things ". I'll also assume (because your practical application knowledge is way beyond the average Joe's) that you have been through all of your Creative Mixer settings to no avail. Having said that, I can't help you at this point in time because I don't have a Vista box set up yet.

Emphasis there is on yet because I'm about to (this week) convert an XP Pro machine to Vista Ultimate and if I can fit it into this particular machine, I'll install an X-Fi card that's been collecting some dust on a shelf. Should your dilemma remain unresolved, I may be able to provide some guidance within a few weeks as I have spent the last couple of months having my 30+ year old stereo components brought back up to original factory specs (my power amp is currently in a shop 700 miles from home) and will be converting a lot of old music from analog to digital. I realize that's of little consquence to you right now but if misery loves company, I may soon be in the same boat.

Please keep us posted as to your progress and when I've got things "set up ". I'll get back to you.
    Good Luck

    ;)
