I work for a police department and we are networked with our Municipal Building. All of the PD's PCs are running Microsoft XP, Service Pack 2, but access email either directly through the web interface, Outlook Express, or Outlook 2003. An independent company "manages" our email, but I've not been getting a satisfactory response from them regarding the following issue. Only the Assistant Chief uses Outlook 2003, and so he is also the only one having any email issues. The problem he's encountering is that when he receives email from our Municipal Building that has an attachment (especially ones with a .eml extension), when he clicks on the attachment to open it, Outlook 2003 shuts down completely. If he right clicks on the attachment and saves it to the hard drive, then he can read the attachment. I ran the Msimn executable file to see if that would re-register the .eml file type, but he still can't open attachments from our Municipal Building and Outlook 2003 shuts down. I've run virus scans, registry cleaner, etc., all to no avail. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what the problem is?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

I don't have the direct answer but am almost certain that it's a File Association issue. The association could be corrupted.
