    Hey,

It's not much of a problem but it is an abnormal behavior.

When using Microsoft Equation editor, after finished editing an object it appears inside a gray rectangle. It obviously shouldn't behave like that.

    Things to know:

    1. I left clicked on an Equation object and made sure that the option of what color to fill the object is "no filling ". (I don't know the exact term because I use non-English menus).
    2. If I choose that the filling will be white it turns white as desired. But when creating another object it won't use these preferences.
    3. When printing the document the gray areas does not appear.
    4. There is the same problem with page numbers (surrounded by gray box).
    5. Apparently the problem concerns with other aspects of Word which I don't know of besides Microsoft Equation and page numbers.

I uploaded a photo for illustration.

    What should I do?

    Thanks.

Does it show this back ground in all views? Print Preview, Page layout view, normal view?

I think you need to be looking for "background" settings.
Perhaps "Show background colors and images in Print Layout View" or something to that extent.

I would be curious to know if it still has the back ground if you paste the equation in Paint, or Excel.

The equation itself is an OLE object, so there may be some OLE settings on older Office XP.

I don't have Office XP installed, so I cannot reproduce it for you.

What happens to the appearance if you click to select the equation?
Do you have any non-standard desktop color settings?
Are you running this Office XP on Vista?

    Oh yeah!

    I fixed it!

The solution is "Tools" > "Preferences" > "Display" Tab > Disabling the "Silhouette for Fields" option.

Again, I don't know if the terms are correct because it is a free translation from Hebrew (I have Hebrew settings & menus).

So it appears that because that option was enabled it drew gray shades around "fields" such as objects, page numbers, etc.

Thank you, I wouldn't have thought about it by myself.
