I used a driver updater. It pointed me to a Unibrain driver to overwrite my via drivers. One of the two drivers is good. The other has the triangle. It won't let me overwrite it. How can I get rid of this driver and reinstall the via drivers?

You say "overwrite ", you want to uninstall first. Right-click on the listing with the triangle and select Uninstall.

Try booting into Safe Mode and doing the uninstall there. Check in Add or Remove Programs if there is any related software/uninstallers, but to uninstall VIA drivers it is usually a matter of re-running the installer.

I suggest you identify the hardware yourself, the programs in my signature could help. Get the drivers from the manufacturer's website. I use the original drivers unless I think there is a reason to update them, although I search for them if I am looking at installing a new Service Pack.

Thank you. I have tried uninstalling them. They come right back. Maybe I'll try the safe mode. But when I reboot, they'll reload again before I can put back the correct drivers.

If you run out of options, you can try doing a System Restore to before you installed them.

Try right-clicking on the problem listing and select Update Driver. Use the selection, No, not now -> Install from a list or specific location -> Don't search, I will choose the driver to install, on the next screen the VIA driver should be listed as a compatible driver. You will need to check any others that are incorrect though, otherwise they might clash.

The Unibrain drivers will have files in the folder C:\Windows\Inf, you can open the .inf file with Notepad and check the "Provider ". Rename the files from .inf to .old, that way, they should not reinstall when you reboot.
