Secondary mouse click won't work

I'm using an HP laptop V6000 with a Synaptics touchpad running WindowsXP. About a week ago I lost all function on the secondary mouse button of the touchpad. No matter where I click -- on the desktop or on webpages -- I get no response at all. I tried using both the left and right buttons for the secondary click, and I have the same problem either way, so I know it isn't a problem with the buttons themselves. I also tried a USB mouse with the same results. I've downloaded and installed a new driver, to no effect. I can't figure out how it happened (the computer was sitting idle for a few hours, and when I returned to it the problem had begun) or what else to try.

Have you checked your mouse settings in control panel, given you have the same issue with another mouse then this is a software problem and that's the first place I'd look.

 

I've checked all the mouse settings -- according to the hardware and device profiles, everything is enabled and working properly.

 

Check your double click settings, it varies depending on the driver but you should be able to adjust the timing.
