    Hi,

I have a compaq desktop, my pc downloaded xphome sp3 earlier today and i installed it, when it came to reboot it kept rebooting when it got to the windows welcome screen, even on the 'last known good configuration'.

so i pressed f10 (which the compaq start up screen said was the system recovery) went through the process then on restart it want straight into windows with no user account selection.

how can i reinstate the user accounts and / or access the ones there, i have gone into the C:\Documents and Settings and i can access one of the user profile files that didn't have a password.
However the main user profile (the important one) was password protected and i now can't access the files. the folder under docs and settings is called Compaq_Owner.

    Pls help.

Looks like a new account has been created - if you are denied access to your existing accounts try ....

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

If you have forgotten the password we are not in a position to help you.

If your problem is that these user accounts do not appear on the Welcome screen, try this. At the welcome screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice, you will get the old style logon. Enter username and password here.
