LAN not accessible when it was updated

    I went to Windows Update using my sis's XP Media Center 2005 when there's an update for the LAN. after installing it, i cant connect to the internet and it keeps on popping up "network unplugged" every 2 seconds.

    i re-install the Lan driver from the CD and it's back to normal.

    have anyone experienced this?

    In general, it's not recommended (on this board) to use hardware drivers offered on Windows Update, but to instead check the hardware manufacturer's website for updated drivers.

    BTW, yes. I have experienced the same issue with NIC drivers from Windows Update. ;)

    Hi Chris, I've just received info reporting that after applying MS Security patch KB958644 if the system runs AVG 8.0.196, your network link may fail. If this is the cause, you have to visit AVG's support page to download the fixfiles.zip file to your comp and install. Neil.
