    Hi!

I have come across a very strange problem and I can't think of any way to go about fixing it.

My computer locked up while installing a treatfire update. I re-started.

I get no boot screen (windows or bios), just the constant light flashing in the dvd drive and the sound of it trying to read over and over. When I pull out the power I get the same thing over and over.

I thought I would be sneaky and put the recovery disk in the drive. The same thing just keeps happening.

    Any ideas?

gossamer - Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I suspect a hardware problem - the update of Threatfire is probably coincidental.

No POST screen (Boot) suggests either a motherboard failure including CPU or a power supply failure. If the hard drive had failed you should still see the boot screen. Although there is power to the DVD drive this does not mean power to other components.

Open the case - assuming this is a desktop - and see if the fans are running - check the fan on the power supply too.

Check and remake all the connections from the power supply to the motherboard and those to the hard drive(s).

Unless the computer is set to boot from CD/DVD drive first it is no surprise that the recovery disk fails - and of course you cannot get into the BIOS to check.

I have moved your thread to the Hardware forum with title edit.

    Thanks

PeteC - thank you very much for your reply :)

A little update, I got sick of my computer and left it alone for the night. I went back before I went to bed and it was all booted up.

Mistified, I rebooted it - same problem. But this time i got a coffee and watched it. 34 min later: it stoped trying to read the cd drive and started. I busted into bios - it is not set to boot off the dvd drive first.

Today I reset again - same delay.

When I get some time in the weekend I am going to disconnect the dvd drive and see what happens.

Thanks again for your response! Also thanks for moving the thread to the Hardware forum and the title edit.
