hi, please excuse if I have typos. im typing from my phone.
A couple of days ago I discover a virus or spyware called antisypware 2009. it was one nasty thing it disable anything that could possibly get rid of it. a friend sent me an email with aif attatched to it. I used it in safe mode and then was able to download malware bytes which got rid of most of it but not all. then I did a system restore to the day before I got the virus which said successful. but when it went to reboot a blue screen come up with an error code. I cannot boot what so ever in any mode. the only thing I can do is run diagnostics from the boot menu. I am so upset because the virus would not allow me to back up my photos. my daughter is 4 years old. all of my pics of her and holidays her birthdays everything is on there and I refuse to give up. I do not care about the computer. I just want to be able to get those pictures onto a disc. please can anyone help. this is so upsetting.

I am sorry to hear about your disaster, that is the very reason why you should backup before disaster strikes.
We have some very talented people here in the anti virus Forum who might be able to save your files.
System Restore is not one of the solutions that I would use.
But I would try and buy or borrow a new HD and install a new fresh OS and then connect the bad drive as a slave and you might be able to save at least some of the pics.
If you are lucky (I hope you are) then download Picasa from Google it is a Photo Manager Free as well and it has a great feature built into it and that is a full back up onto CD or DVD with the click of a button.
Please wait for one of the virus removal experts to reply.
    best of luck

    cajunangel21 - Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

You have a very good chance of recovering your data from the computer :) - with your experience listed a Beginner you may need to get assistance from a friend with more experience .....

Remove the drive from your computer and connect it to another computer as a slave drive. Providing that the other computer sees the drive you should be able to copy your data off and burn to DVD/CD.

If that is successful we can proceed to analyse and hopefully fix the failure to boot problem once the drive has been replaced in your computer.

It would be helpful to know the Stop message (Error Code) displayed on the blue screen if this is reproducible.

This experience of yours highlights the absolute necessity of maintaining regular backups of all important data externally - either on DVD/CD, pen drive, external hard drive ....

Keep us posted as to progress.

how do I take out the drive. im so scared at this point to do anything with it. and the sad thing is im the most computer literate person I know. the error code goes as follows
    stop: 0x0000007B (0XF849E52, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I know I should have done regular back ups but I never thought this would happen. I never download anything that int secure onto the computer but last week my husband decided to download music off of limewire. never use limewire its full of spywar and viruses. then we went out of town and I left my pc on and this was the state it was in when I returned.

ps what does slave mean? oh and thanks for the hope.

okay I just got off the phone with a computer repair guy. he just said the same thing about removing it and hooking it up to another computer. he said he would save my pics to a cd for 54 dollars. I cannot affor to get the whole pc fixed. but im thinking I can get him to do that since it involed removal of parts and after that if yall can figure out what the error code is maybe I could fix the rest with your guidance. do you think this would be the best solution?

If you want to answer my question, I may be able to help you out depending upon the logistics. On the other hand, $54 is a reasonable price for pulling your drive and copying your pictures and I would assume the repairman you talked to would also be pretty reasonable re: fixing your machine.

    ;)

Unfortunalely you are a victim of PSP - there are no viruses in limewire itself - from our Malware experts ....
The error message translates as .....
In your case I think a virus is the most likely cause.

The fix, IMHO,is a clean install of Windows, but there is no guarantee that that would be successful if the hard drive cannot be accessed and that would wipe everything you currently have on the drive.

Give us some more information .....

What is the make and model no. of the computer?

Do you have a Windows installation or Recovery CD?

um, I don't live by a bayou. I am from louisiana though.

it is a dell 2400 series. im at work so I don't have the serial numbers. and no I don't have a recovery disc.

I called the repair guy back he said he would recover my pics and reinstall everything for 162.00 which is super cheap compared to geek squad. now my question is if the hard drive isn't accessible can my pictures be recovered? and also I would like to be able to wait to pay the 162 after my daughter's bday and christmas. if the computer is turned off will time reduce the chances of recovering the pics?

Most likely - Yes. When connected to another computer the files should be seen by the operating system of that computer.
    Not at all.
I think Rockster was asking where you lived in LA - not the specific address, just the locaion :)

Not a problem - It's better to be safe than sorry. I can assure you my intentions were/are innocent and I am very happily married with no interest in anything other than your computer.

Unfortunately, you are a little too far away for me to offer any direct help.

    ;)

haha no no that's not what I meant. they had an episode recently with a ballerina switch lives with a woman from louisiana to experience life on the bayou. and like I said I didn't see that you were from louisiana. so when I saw "what bayou do you live by" I was like here we go. the next question will be do yall really eat roadkill... haha 3 live in cali for a long time and you would roll over laughing if you knew all of the questions I would get. I lived out there when water boy came out which I went and say with a large group of friends... they asked me to translate what was being said. haha so I didn't mean to imply that you were a swinger. haha

well thanks to everyone for all of the advice. obviously im in over my head and I will get a pro to help asap. too bad I live to far cause I love learning new things about my pc. I will definitely come back if I ever have anymore questions )
