I am having a problem uploading a video to Google Video. It is the first time I have tried such a thing.

Here's a little background. My son was home from college recently and used my videocamera to make a six-minute video to use on a project at school. I used the equipment and software I have to transfer if onto our computer, then burned it on a dvd, which he took back to school. We didn't realize that even though I saved it as an mpeg when I transferred it onto our computer, when it burned onto the dvd it did so as a vob (I believe) file. My son said that type of file is often used on dvd players? Anyhow, the software he has available to him at school doesn't allow him to edit vob files. He needed it to be mpeg.

When he called last night and told me about this, I first tried to email him the file as an attachment. Unfortunately, the 317mb file was too big to do so. He came up with the idea to upload it to Google Video. He said that unlike Youtube, with Google Video you can download the actual video file to your computer. We got me registered with Google Video. Because of the size of the file, we had to download the program for uploading from the desktop. I had a little trouble logging in, but eventually was able to do so. When I went to upload the video, the process bogged down. It says it is uploading the file, but it never completes it. There are some numbers displayed that say something like 96KB of 317.5MB. That number changes occasionally to 160KB, then it goes down to 32KB before going back to 96KB. I left the computer on all night to see if the magic computer fairies would make it work, but no luck.

Because, of course, he needs this quickly to complete the project, I was able to drag the mpeg file onto a cd. My wife and he are going to split the 1.5 hour drive between our home and his college this morning and meet halfway to deliver the disk.

I, of course, am frustrated that I couldn't get this to work. I am curious if anybody has any suggestions on what we did wrong? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

It was unfortunate you could not upload the video to Google Video. A simple solution would be to use the many Free Online Storage services available on the Internet. You would upload the mpeg file to Online storage account and your son then download it to his computer. Sharing files from the account will be explained by the site you choose ... (or) create an account and both you and your son use the same credentials to login as user/owner of the account.
