    re antivirus

    ===================
Their all good but some do things differently to others . But --with the departure of theprofessor from fprot truly full free has mostly gone. I think sophos will detect most [ if you can get it free --some places-- getting past the universities ] --- after that you will find it cheaper in the end to pay the non free now fprot , kapersky etc -- and with the speed of the internet and with you running eg nortons you will be surprised how many trojans the proactive part of kapersky and others and the proactive part of maxsecures spyware detective will detect -- if you missing these lightning attacks and your domains in registry are attracting more attacks etc watch out. So use regedit on your computer or registry first aid or registry mechanic and similar programs and see how much rubbish you have with iobit.coms advanced [not beta version] care and or uniblue

hello indyhamilton. SuperAntiSpyware,MalwareBytes, and SpywareGuard is a nice combo on my machine. I also run with Avira AntiVir and Comodo Firewall. Keeps me out of too much trouble. I scan every other day and keep updated. All of the above are freeware.

hello indyhamilton. Yes. Antispyware is not like Antivirus. You can run several different types at the same time. Some works by signature and others watch for the activity of the program. Some are specialists and look for certain types(rootkits, trojans, etc.)Choice is up to you what to use. You SHOULD NOT have more than 1 Antivirus at a time though.

It should also be noted that SAS and SG are two entirely different animals.

One scans and removes malware, SAS and the other is more of a preventative application. It will not remove anything other than revert some changes.

I like Malwarebytes to get rid of the nasty malware and have Norton Internet Security for antivirus. I can recommend avast! as a free antivirus option as well, malwarebytes is a freebie.

hello again everybody. Everyone seems to have some good suggestions, but I have my doubts about sniper9228's about Windows Firewall. Everything I've read or heard says that it doesn't block outgoing traffic. That is why I use a third party firewall(Comodo).

    Hi There,

Recently i Had a very bad experience with a spyware program but with the help of the WindowsBBS guys i was able to get rid of that in order to prevent anything like that in future i thought of downloading some security softwares to install as i dont have only Malwarebytes right now.
So after coming to know different free softwares that are there in the market i zeroed down on combination of Avast+SpywareGuard+Superantispyware+Comodo Firewall.

So i downloaded and installed SpywareGuard and SAS followed by Comodo and Avast as during this i had to reboot the computer .
On rebooting i found that i can't connect to my wireless home network and computer hangs up with a message "Dr. Watson Degubber Problem" which i found after research as a feature of the windows that enables windows to handle any software errors and comes up when the system could not find error handle for the application.
So ultimately i had to delete all these softwares although initially i tried to delete Comodo and Avast but as the message was still coming up and as the computer was till hanging up so i had to delete SpywareGuard and SAS too.
Bringing me to the point where i was before.
So i am wondering what is going on is there a software conflict in the above combination or what?
Would really like to know as i dont have any protection softwares on the machine right noe other than Malwarebytes.

Try downloading and installing Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender, and Spyware Blaster. They shouldn't cause any conflicts. I have installed those programs on hundreds of computers and never had a problem with them.

    Hi

I tried to install Avast again and noticed that on rebooting i can't connect to my Wireless network so had to delete it again so i guess the loss of wireless connectivity that i experienced before when i installed a number of security softwares together is mainly due to Avast. But why is it like that?

    Can anybody explain that pl.

As you all are talking about Virus removal and malware I thought I would ask about it here.
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem ..." How many of you have encountered this message friends? I am worried as it wont let me remain connected online and for a frequent second the desktop and taskbar would change/discolored. I have heard this is due to a virus/malware, any fixes for this?

    My Response

I recently just restored an image of windows because of a recent (rogue malware defender) infection. The virus I got was embedded in an exe file rootkit which I doubleclicked. I doubt good AVs or good firewalls would pick that part up. I have tried all of the free firewalls out there. I am not about to pay for one if I do not really need it.

Comodo and ZoneAlarm are too slow. Comodo interface with all of the features is confusing.

Because I redid windows, as of now, I will stick with windows firewall and wait for pc tools firewall 5 comes out and try that.

Another reason is that there is a heated debate about "you must need outgoing protection from malware." Let me ask, doesn't antimalware and antivirus software do that for you? YES

I see no point as of now using a software firewall. If I had win 2000, yes I would definitly install one. Especially now, I just redid my computer and want to keep it clean from sluggish software.

hello sniper9228. You say you just redid Windows because of some malware that got in?If it had tried to "call home" with your information, Windows firewall would just open the door and let it out. A good third party firewall( yes, PCTools does have a good one) would prompt you with a request as to whether or not to let an unknown program or application have access to the internet.

    I agree with you

If anything, I would put on Sygate if emergency. For now, I will wait for PC Tools 5 and use winfirewall.
