On my wifes computer at work the CDR and CD/DVDRW have stopped working. When A disk is placed in either one the light will flash for a short time and then nothing happens. When I go to device manager it says both are working as they should. When I check the properties of the disk that has been inserted in either drive it shows that the disk is 0% used and 9% empty, both! Makes no difference if it is a disk that is known to be empty or full. Both worked fine up to a couple of weeks ago. They will not even read or write on disks that have been written on them in the past.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Jeff

The computer is a Dell Dimension 5100 XP Pro

    Dirty lenses can cause this...

Good ol fashion method is to shut the pc down...Unhook the drives and boot up...Shut down again and hook the drives back up and hope that Windows correctly sees the drives.
