I use XP, on Friday my computer started to start up and then froze with a blank screen. Nothing would persuade it to complete start-up.
So, I inserted my XP cd and clicked on the repair option which took some time but got the computer working again.
First thing I noticed was the picture next to my name on the log on screen had changed, when I clicked on my name the computer completed log on but all my programmes have gone.
I used Windows Explorer and found all the programmes on the C drive but I cannot access them as they are not accessible under my name.
I notice in Documents and Settings that I now appear to be Michael.NEW and that all my old documents are shown under Michael
When I check user accounts in the control panel there is only Michael, there is no Michael.NEW nor is there any other user shown.
How can I re-establish contact with my programmes and documents etc. Can I just drag all the Documents and Settings from Michael to Michael.NEW or do I need to hack the registry settings?
    Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks for that Pete, it has resolved most of the problems although not all of the programmes transfered.
I have re-installed Office but cannot get Outlook to work, I'll try another section of this forum for help on that
