    Hi there,

I am running XP SP2 on IBM Thinkpad X41 Tablet PC.
I have noticed that for the last sometime whenever i change the volume settings the bars that indicate the level don't appear anymore I think it is probably due to some changes that i did some time back.

Can anybody help me with this.

    thanks

Open Sounds and Audio Devices applet in the Control Panel
Click Advanced in the Device volume section
    Click Options>Properties
Select the level icons you wish to be visible and OK out

Make sure you have the drivers installed for your sound card/chip.

    Hi Arie,

Thanks for getting back during my research i found that the file Hotkey.exe is responsible for showing all the features like this e.g. caps lock on/off when you make a change or the vertical bars that reflect volume change when you pres the relevant keys so it is not a windows file. But what i am not able to understand is that i downloaded the relevant file from iBM site and still the situation is same. I can see the cahnges on screen if i press other keys but only the volume changes are the ones that dont show up. So wondering what should i do.

Do you have a driver disk? Maybe try re-installing your keyboard drivers. While the Hotkey.exe file might show some status, maybe it relies on another file for the sound level display.
