I just noticed that NPROTECT is taking up to 30% of my hard disk and I need to recover this space.

    1. I know that this is a Norton/SystemWorks file but not sure what it does?

    2. How do I get rid of this or at least get it down to a manageable size?

(I tried searching on this but couldn't find a definitive answer to both of these questions.

    I'm using XP-Home.

Nprotect is part of Norton Utilities. (It replaces the default recycle bin.)

Doesn't it have an "empty" type option?
And or look in it's options to reduce the amount of drive space it reserves.

I used to have Norton Utilities but no longer. I always set Norton Protected Recycle Bin to "standard ". If you do that, I believe the NPROTECT folder will be emptied when you empty the Recycle Bin. Afterwards, you can set it back to "norton protected ".

    Thanks guys,

It worked like a charm. I just right clicked on the Recycle Bin icon (I use the Standard) and it gave me two options to either Empty Norton Protection or Empty Recycle Bin.
I don't really know why Norton Protection was enabled in the first place as I don't care what goes in the recycle bin.

I went into the Properties and unchecked Enable protection and got back my 30%

    You're welcome ... :) ... !

When you install SystemWorks, it assumes that you want to use it and enables its functions.
