I connected my new Vista Laptop to my LAN which also includes my XP Pro machine. Vista sees and can access all the folders which are shared. XP can not access the main folder with all documents on Vista. It can access other files labeled Users/Default and Public. File sharing on the Vista machine is set for all folders. Neither machine is password activated.

I am missing something somewhere - what do I need to do to get access to the Vista folder (equivalent to Document and Settings in XP) from the XP machine?

Thanks in advance. I have searched the postings but haven't found a similar thread.

Hi and welcome to the BBS (BTW, well done searching the threads before posting).

Documents are under the Users folder in Vista. It has "links "(redirections) for things that used to be in "My" Documents in the old:) system. Make sure your paths are correct and you have given permissions for the correct folders.

It might be one the "bugs" people don't like about Vista, but you will need to treat it differently to XP.

One day I might work out why Documents and Settings was changed to Users, looks quite messy to me

    Access Denied

Thanks. I had found the Users folder, activated the share, set permissions to everyone, and all folders show up on the XP machine. But, I can only access the folders under Public. All folders under my name (similar to "My Documents" are "Access Denied ".

The Vista help file is confusing to the point of throwing up my hands. I did move some folders to the Public file but that is not completely satisfactory.
