My monitor has blacked out on a few occasions and I can do nothing but shut down from the tower. I tried a different monitor and the same thing happened. It's not constant, I'd say 3 times over a month. Swapping monitors leads me somewhere else... video card? 300mh pentII 95b. Thanks in advance for any help.

    research...?

Look for new drivers and try those.
Usually that is the first place to check.
Anotehr is how much dust around the video card, try a can of air and spray it.
Could be the card is overheating....
How often prior to this was the monitor conencted then disconnected from the card, or the card disconnected from the motherboard.
Possible the slot for the card (either on the card or the board is worn to where it is not making a solid connection..
    Try a different slot.
Would say try a different card, but then it seems to happen so rare and sporadic......:)

Good luck, and hope that helps a bit. Hope I covered what you have not tried....:)

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I have the same problem with my computer once or twice a month. I just check my connections and make sure my video cards are seated properly in their slots (I have a dedicated DVD decoder card in addition to my primary video card). Also check the monitor connection to the card.

Jerry had a good suggestion. Keep a can of compressed air around at all times. When all else fails blow the dust out of your computer.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I checked for an updated driver and the one they had for download was a lower version number than mine so I passed. Will recheck my connections and blow out the tower and see what happens. Again, thanks for your time and input.
