 I have a Compac Presario 5000 series computer. I have been having this problem since day one with this computer. I can shut down the tower and turn off the monitor. If we have a power outage or the power goes off and then on (blinks) this computer will boot up when the power comes back on. I am half way computer literate, but I know of no way to stop this computer from doing this. Is there something I don't know here?
    thanks

When you power down a desktop from the power button the system doesn't completly power down, there's a trickle charge to allow for wake on LAN etc.

There's also a setting in the BIOS (usually accessed by pressing DEL during power up) that allows your system to restart on power failure (very useful for servers). You can usually turn this option off though, if your confident DIY, if not ask a friend, third option switch of or unplug from the wall socket.

    No need to wait :D

Shut down your computer as normal, unplug from the wall and plug it back in... I'm fairly sure your computer will remain off.

Now change that setting in the BIOS to it's previous value and try the above again ;)
