    Hi Guys,
I've a really strange "Access is Denied" problem.

In my 'Movies' virtual drive (200GB of 250GB) I have a folder of a series of TV progs I've copied over from my PVR. I realised that one of them was incorrectly named so attempted to rename it - "Access is Denied" Hmmm....

Long story short - EVERY file in that folder (27 files, 14.6GB) come up with the same error whether I try to rename, move or copy/paste, nor will they play - I have no problems with any other files on the drive and these files have played previously.

I've Googled my little heart out to no avail so decided to annoy you guys...:p

Anyone got any clues? There's not much more I can tell you.

    Regards,
    Den

    Hey Steve,

    1. Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).

There IS no Security tab or any other indication of administrative rights on any files (the ones in question or otherwise.) I have other similar files in other folders that are responding fine, it's just this one folder that is giving problems. These files have functioned previously.

    Regards,
    Den

No Security tab could also indicate that the drive is formated FAT32.

Hey Steve, no - NTFS (I was of the belief 200GB would not format to FAT32)

There has been no format, the status quo remains. These files worked no more than about a week ago, but NONE are working now.

The question is - what would cause a complete folder of files to fail, but no others (some 81GB worth) in the entire partition? There are even simple *.txt files in there that display "Access is Denied" when 2x clicked.

Ok Guys I just noticed something that may give a clue. When Right Clicking on other files on the drive this comes up -

When Right Clicking on the offending files (every one of them) only this, that is - No 'summary' -

Does this shed any more light onto my problem?

I can find some references to the missing Summary tab for jpgs and mp3's, but thinking about the missing Security tab .....

If Simple File Sharing is enabled you need to disable it to show the Security tab - Tools > Folder Options > View in Windows Explorer.

What is the status on your box?

Thanks Steve & Pete, problem solved - I compared the two Security tabs and noticed that the good one had "Allow" ticked. Did this with the errant folder and it did the trick. Dunno how it got 'unticked', just one of the billions of little mysteries of MS.....

Guess I'm befuddled now :D Would not have thought that clicking Allow would have done anything when the Group or Users pane was blank.

Anyway normality is restored - thanks for the update.
