    Lookat directions for Netscape .
This is not a new thing, so I expect that it did not work before. You need to "authenticate" your address.

Some ISP's have been changing their outgoing (SMTP) port numbers from old standard outgoing port, 25 to the new number, 587. Supposed to fool the spammers. Yeah, right! like the spam hackers don't know about port 587!!!

You might give that a try under tool>account settings> SMTP.

    BOSSDOGG,

Take a look at the screens located at http://www.raysmyth.net/dunce/13-mail/00-tb.html and see if they help any with your problem.

I am also a Bellsouth DSL customer and have been helping a friend of mine in Abilene, Texas who is a customer of the NEW ATT as they call it.

I find ATT requires the SLL box checked while Bellsouth does not require it.

However, with the ATT / Bellsouth merger, I suspect different regions have different server setting requirements

You indicate you are a Bellsouth customer and so have I since 2003. I have had no setup problems since day one with Bellsouth.

On the other hand my friend using ATT has had nothing but, problems because one time one thing works and the next time it doesn't and it is because they seem to be in a constant state of change with no notification

Some how ATT has brought YAHOO into the picture and nothing makes any sense at all. You sign in and then about every 3rd page you load you have to sign in again.

Then my friend ends up with three different accounts one for his bill and one for his mail system and one for a calender or something or other and you never know which account it is going to open and then Yahoo gets in the act.

The ATT - Yahoo combination is a nerd-e mess and causes all sorts of headaches.

My Bellsouth was setup in 2003 and nothing has changed and works great. Most every thing you need do makes sense.

With my grips aired check out the setup windows at:... http://www.raysmyth.net/dunce/13-mail/00-tb.html and see if they help you any.

If you still have problems can you provide us your server settings and your location.

    Cheers, Ray

Looking at the bellsouth FAQs, I don't see that they acknowledge the existance of Thunderbird, but they do give a set up for Netscape, whose mail is similar to Thunderbird. Why don't check with their tech people, and ask them if there have been any changes.
They should come out with information about any changes in their setup.
The only other possible issue would be if the Sent folder is enormous, like close to 1GB. You can find the size of the Sent folder on the hard drive.
