    Hello netjohn139,
    welcome to WindowsBBS ... :) ... !

    We need more information:

Has the D-drive shown up before and now, for some reason, doesn't?

    Has the D-drive been added?

Does the drive show up in the BIOS and Disk Management?

    drive recognition

Yes it does show on the boot screen, but doesn't show in windows.
The drive was fitted on original build. I have recently installed a new windows XP. The drive showed originally but no longer does.

Can you pad this out a bit - the drive does not show up in Windows Explorer or My Computer?

Does it show in Disk Management? (Right click My Computer icon > Manage > Disk Management)

If it shows there does it have a drive letter?

Is this a PATA (ide) or SATA drive and is your C:\ drive PATA or SATA? Thinking that if it is a SATA drive and the C:\ drive is PATA you need to load the SATA drivers for the drive to be recognised.

    OTH -
On the old install of XP or the new install?

As far as I know the drives are identical. They were initially installed together.
I had a new windows installed recently and both drives showed normally ( C & D) in windows explorer and 'my computer'. Now D doesn't appear in either.

If you open a Command Window (Start > Run > cmd > Enter) can you then switch to the D:\ drive?

To clarify - did you .....

At C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username> followed by flashing cursor .....

Type cd\ and Enter - tales you to C:\> followed by flashing cursor ....

Type D: and Enter - does this take you to D:\> followed by the flashing cursor?

If it does type Dir followed by Enter - does this take you to the directory listing of D:\?

Possibility that the drive has failed - have you checked the cables - power and ribbon?

Are both drives attached to the same cable?
