Firefox 2.0.0.17 always opens when I want to use IE7

I am running an earlier version 2.0 and just updated to IE7.
Every address automatically opens in Firefox. This did not occur prior to IE7 installation.
The previous posts did not solve this problem.

Any suggestions

 

1. What is your setting for Default Browser?
2. What OS are you running?
3. What did you upgrade to IE7 from?

 

Do you still have IE 6 installed? If so, then see this Mozillazine KB Article:

I've read that this solution works even if you don't have both IE 6 and 7 installed.

 

I uninstalled IE7 and my previous version IE6 does not open Firefox so I guess it's IE7 related. Perhaps it senses that Firefox is the default browser and automatically opens all url links there. If I click on a link within my home page on IE7, it opens the linked page within IE7.

 

Did you try deleting the Registry Key, before uninstalling IE 7?

 

I had the same problem and posted a question about this problem on this forum a couple of months ago. The only way I could fix this situation was to designate IE7 as the default browser.
When this is done, everything works fine. Once IE7 is open, subsequent windows open in IE7 and when FF3 is open, subsequent windows open in FF3.
I do not see the advantage at this time of specifying FF3 as the default browser. If someone knows a good reason to do this, I would like to know what it is.
I think the original problem started when I installed FF3, because I never had this problem with FF2+. I believe it is a FF3 problem when FF3 is the default.
BTW, I have IE7 and XP SP2 on my laptop where this issue occurred.

 

I have XP SP2, IE7, FF3.0.3 as well as 2.0.0.17. I have selected 3.0.3 as default, in fact I don't use IE intentionally, and 2.0.0.17 only because it has a different set of bookmarks, but should I want to open any of them, they work as I want. Since I have two Firefox versions, I can open only one at a time. IE7 is completely separate, and I can do what I want with it.

 

Westside, I do not think you understand the problem. Do this: Open IE7 to a website that has links to other websites. Then click on one of those embedded websites and check to see if the new page opened in IE7 or FF3!
I would be almost certain that the website you opened appears in a FF3 window rather than an IE7 window.
Please report back to us.
If your embedded window opened in IE7, you are truly blessed! assuming you have designated FF3 as your default browser.

I am among the blessed, as when opening a link using IE, the link does open in IE. I do have Firefox designated as the default browser.

If anything, I have the opposite problem. I click a link in FF3, and it opens IE. But, I understand this. Some sites are hard coded for IE. Sorry, I understand what is being said. I supposed that I am, also, blessed. It may help to have a link to a website which does what is described. And, the sequence of events. FF open or closed.
I tested aol.com, and it overwrite the existing tab. My other tab in IE is to sillydog.org, and a link opens a popup, in IE. FF3 was open.

 

Did you ever check all the default program settings?

 

Where do you see this? Surely not in WinXP. Or if I should see this, how do I get to this most valuable info.

 

There never was a response to my query regarding the OS in use by the original poster. As I use Vista, that is what I referenced. I no longer have any PCs running XP, so cannot readily investigate where, or if, that information is available in that OS.

Here is what the next level looks like for IE and Firefox on my PC. I suppose in XP one would have to go into file associations to get this? I do not know about the protocol associations in XP.

 

In XP there is nothing like was shown before, and AFAIK the settings are meaninless.
With Custom settings the "current default browser" is checked, and nowhere mentioned.
I have placed a check mark to allow access to a number of programs. Seamonkey Mail was not checked, but never had any problem. And, who knows about file associations?
.shtml was assigned to Firefox, but .html to no program. First time I saw anything worthwhile in Vista, but does it work?

 

Keep looking. There's quite a bit more. I would not go back to XP, myself.

 

I was making a comment that the feature in Vista is worthwhile. I have been, all along, using XP, and, no intention of getting Vista.

 

Taking you out of context, you are correct!

 

The operating system is windows XP Pro. After uninstalling IE7 the problem does not exist with version 6.

IE7 again was installed and the same problem occurs.
