There is a way to back up a user account profile so that it can be restored if the original ever gets corrupted. This saves settings, preferences, and loads of other things that would be handy to just restore rather than redo. How is it done in Vista? What would be the process for restoring it if needed? Could I put a copy of my user profile on another machine after creating a new account? Does the OS have to be the same flavor, or can Windows sort it out? Yes, I know I could google and experiement, but one of you has tried this already, I'm sure.

There isn't a way to clone an account that I know of. A profile getting corrupt can happen, but it doesn't happen often. Has it ever happened to you before?

Just backing up the data within your account is still the thing to do.

No, I've never had a corrupt profile. I just thought it would be a fast way to make accounts on different machines match, or get my profile back to normal quickly in the event of an OS reinstall.

Windows Easy Transfer should be able to make a file that saves your settings. Read about it in Help and Support.
