Hi everyone, could someone help me work out what is wrong with the following configuration, or point me in the direction of how I can solve it. It is a question from a job application.

    Host IP address: 172.16.55.36
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240
    Default Gateway: 172.16.55.1
    DNS servers: 172.18.1.1, 172.18.1.2

    Thanks for looking.

That host cant see the gateway or DNS server with that subnet mask.
    .240 gives you 16 addresses.

    From Port forward .com

I wrote this tool a couple of years ago:

    http://www.nicholshayes.co.uk/Node2Node.html

You can use it to play with pairs of IP addresses to see if they will talk together. If you put the computer's IP address in as PC1 and the gateway router address as PC2, you can have a play around to see what addresses work together.
