Hi , I have just purchased a Acer Travelmate 6592. running XP Pro , it is a ex demo and had not had updates loaded for a while , it tells me that there are update ready and it will down load updates but it does not install them. when I go to shut it off, it said it is loading "1 of 93 ".( it started to install one time but it has only added one update since I have had it,)( 1 week) updates but it only runs for 30 seconds and then switches off, on my desktop it installs them then shuts down,
Is there any way of installing them manually?.
They are in the PC , where would I find them?.
I thought it may be too big a job for it to load them all at once.
    Thanks Des.

In IE click on Tools->Windows Updates and install em that way. It should detect they are sitting on your pc...

You can skip the SP3 download by click the "check other updates" button (words to that extent).

Click 'Custom' rather than 'Express' and decline SP3 when offered.

Of course I am 200ks away from the shop to get it looked at.
Thats why I am trying all your help.
    Thanks again Des.

Find error codes in the WindowsUpdate.log.

To open this log, go to Start > Run and type

    %windir%/WindowsUpdate.log

    and press OK.

    Post relevant info here.

For more information see: How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

These two errors don't let much to the imagination.

You could try SP3 & see what happens.

Hi, Arie. I have had some success at last. I am not really sure what happened?. I tried to down load SP3. but after a while it stopped, so I thought maybe if I tried a few at a time , so I unticked all except 2 and it installed them so then It came up with 28 , so I tried that and in they went, then it came up with 61 so I thought what the hell and away they went. now it comes up as my desktop does asking what you want then it shows a box while doing the installing.
I checked " Add & Remove programs and they are all in there.
I dont like things that just fix themselves?? but not complaining.
Thanks again for all your help and advice,
    Regards Des.:)
