new hardware is not installing.

    hi,
    i am facing a problem here.
    i am using winxp sp2.
    i had some virus problem.
    now all virus has been removed.
    but the problem is windows is not accepting any new harware like: usb pen drive & usb laser printer.

    system is detecting all the usb hardware. but not installing.

    "printer installation could not completed "

    "error has occured while installing usb mass storage "

    help me out i am not in a stage to format my pc.

    Hi umalik712, Do you have your WinXP CD? If so, try running > Start > Run > type sfc /scannow in window and hit Enter. (note space after sfc /) You may be asked for the CD to verify Files are correct. You may have trouble running this if there are updates and a message will appear saying its later than the OS installed. I use this now and then to confirm all System Files are in order. I followed an instruction to locate i386 on the Win XP Home CD and extract it to C: I have no problem running the command and it only takes about 10 mins to run.Neil.

    "Not in a stage "...be at a stage! Your hard disk drive could fail at any time.

    Personally, I don't trust systems (or test them extensively) after a virus has been removed (extracted?).

    You can try going to Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers and using Uninstall for any device with "Controller" in the heading. Watch that you have the drivers available in case you need them for when you reboot (the drivers CD from when you purchased the computer).

    hi
    i have tried it.
    it has run only for few seconds & then closed automatically.
    i have tried few more times but it is not running,when running sfc /scannow = one dos screen flashes.
    no error displayed.
