Hey guys I am experiencing major hassles with my Windows XP home edition. I have been searching the net all day for info or suggestions on how i may fix the prob but not having any luck so i hope you guys may be able to help or give some advice.

Ok the first problem was after starting up my comp id be welcomed with an error message saying "Your system has recovered from a serious error"
    BCCode : 50 BCP1 : D1086838 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 80573E6C
    BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 768_1
    C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini091202-05.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\NATALI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

I came accross an update at the microsoft website to fix this prob but it has not resolved the issue.

After installing the update i rebooted and now im still greeted with the error message and when all the applications have loaded all my desktop( icons, Startbar, taskbar ect) disappears and the only way i can use anything on this computer is by pressing "control alt+delete" then clicking file--> run and type in the prog file name.

now i dont know if this is happening because i installed the update or not because the computer was goin crazy a few days ago. id be workin on my comp and a blue screen would appear and tell me bout a memory dump error and reboot. I'd then boot up and every time i try to click on an icon it would tell me windows cannot find the file. (eg I click on My Computer and it tells me "Windows cannot find Rundll 32.exe" or if i click on Microsoft word icon it tells me "Windows cannot find WinWord.exe ") and i'd only be able to run these file by clicking Run As. Now I have been getting around this problem by using system restore. but now system restore isnt working either. What can i do.
I dont have the XP Home Edition CD but i do have XP pro would i be better of doin an apgrade? or does someone know what my problem may be??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What error are you getting when it bluescreens while you are running it?
Sounds pretty serious. I'd probably try to get to the bottom of it before upgrading or you may end up having to reinstall that, too.
Check for viruses. Could be a failing hard drive.
If you want to take the time, and possibly end up in the same boat you are in now, you may as well upgrade and see what happens. If the problem is not the HD or a virus, it is possible that a fresh installation will fix it.

I second the motion of possible HDD failure and suggest you run a full surface scan to check it out.
