Thank goodness I can access my mail from the web version, but I'm in a panic. All my email history is missing.

Found it...by searching for msinm.exe. Now I can get IE to open, but the links to all the archive files are not valid. I get a list of all the email folders and the list of all the email messages in each folder. When I click on the item in the email folder no details are displayed in the message pane, so the text of each message and any attached file is not displayed. The address book seems to work as before. The scareist part is I can find old *.dbx files, but only those that are part of an old backup.

Warning....SP3 install deleted both the desktop icon & Outlook express from the Start list and caused this mess.

    click start > run > appwiz.cpl
and uninstall sp3 and reboot the pc.

sometimes it better not keep your system updated because other applications will also need to be updated for that.

Thanks for the hint as to how to uninstall SP3. However, I need to find out how to get Outlook running again. The inbox is being refreshed with new message titles (inlcuding the posting of your response), but these is no text in the messaeg text pane.

This seems to be the most common way to fix it, see if this helps:

    Be sure OE is closed.
    Click Start-->Run.
    Type: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
Note the space between the 2 and i.
    Click OK.

    Thanks Sandy.

    Problem solved!!!!!!!!!!

RegSvr312 ran successfully and gave message

    DLLRegisterServer in inetcomm.dll succeeded

Still no occurance of Outlook Express as a desktop icon, or in the start/Programs list.

Searched through Program Files and found an Outlook Express folder
Clicked on MSINM.EXE and all seems fine.

Gunna back this data up NOW.

    Great! :)

    now try this

click start > run > appwiz.cpl > add/remove windows components > check internet explorer and outlook express > next > finish.

this should bring outlook express and internet explorer in your start program list then

right click on oultook express > send to > desktop (creat shorcut)

    should bring icon on desktop.

let me know whether solution worked for you or not

Thanks, I just went to Program Files/ Outlook and made a shortcut of msinm.exe and moved that to the esktop & then moved it to the start folder.

    Same results.

    Thanks for your support.
