Didn't want to edit in my last reply for fear you wouldn't see

You can delete/remove Flash Drive Disinfector and any other tools we had you download to clean the machine.

    Hi again.

I have been able to follow all the above steps except this bit:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{BBC9D397-7476-4998-BE80-C3CD2EBF1AA1}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Auctions.dbx
I can't tell if this is in your Inbox/deleted items/sent/ or where so you'll have to look in your Outlook Express folders and delete this

I have had a look in our Outlook Express and yes, there is a folder called Auctions (for Ebay correspondence). There are like 830 message in that folder that go back 5 years. Do I need to delete all of them?

I take on board your comments regarding cracks for software and have ceased doing that. I only had cracks for games that I had on disk but didn't want to have to keep putting the disk back in to play the game each time. I guess it's not that much of an inconvenience to put the disk in each time if it means my PC is safer.

Many thanks again for your help with this. There are indeed angels on the internet and you and other people on this site who help others qualify as that.

    Thank you,

    Glen.

If they are that old I'd say their definitely not needed.
You make the call on this....decide whats needed and what can go, then scan again with Kaspersky and see if you deleted the infected ones.
Thank you Glen, we here at WindowsBBS appreciate the kind words.
    Safe surfing

    Hi Juliet,

I have deleted the entire Auctions folder so that should take care of that last one.

I will check out the hardware section of this site to see if the hang during startup can be fixed. It's more of a slight annoyance than anything else - as opposed to the crippling issue you were able to sort out for me.

One quick question about trying to protect my PC moving forward. I have comodo as my firewall but when I turn the Defense + security on it basically blocks my internet access (using firefox). I have read online that others have also experienced this but none of the solutions I've read have worked for me. Do you have any suggestions as to how to have Comodo fully running without effecting firefox's access or perhaps another firewall program?

    Many thanks again,

    Glen

    Hi Glen

    That should do the trick
    Glad we could help.
I can't give much help about Comodo other then it does sound as if some type of a firewall rule set the restriction.
I do know most firewalls have an inside program configurations setup to set access points for allowing certain internet applications to run and or update.
Now where that is or how to get there I don't know.

    Kinda curious here....
Do you have Firefox2 or have you updated to the latest version Firefox3?

You could try a few things:
Enable Windows firewall then uninstall Comodo.
Download and install Comodo again (Disable Windows firewall) and set the program up to allow Firefox and the other programs you want to allow access to the internet.
Does sound a tad long and complicated but might do the trick.

I did find a help forum for Comodo that may help here
    https://support.comodo.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=view&parentcategoryid=13&pcid=2&nav=0,2

And I can give you info for a couple more free firewalls.

    The following FREE versions are:
    Zone Alarm free:
    http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en
PDF documention for Zone Alarm available here:
    http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/support/za/znalmMain.jsp
If you are going to try Zone Alarm I suggest to just install the basic firewall so the bundled trial Antivirus does not get installed, Also I recommend NOT installing the new optional feature Spy Blocker, as it's run by the questionable search engine Ask.com. You can read more about Ask.com http://www.benedelman.org/spyware/installations/askjeeves-banner/

    Sunbelt kerio:

PDF documentation for Sunbelt Kerio available here:

    Online Armor Free

    Jetico free:

If one conflicts with your system, try another.
