I get keep getting Black Screen on boot, 75% of the time, most of the time a restart is ok, but after shutting down for awhile and turning it back on it will boot to black screen, I have replaced my video card (EVGA 8800 GTS 512mb) and Memory with same effects. I have Debug log and other log files included below. I have tried many different Drivers to no effect! But i may not have tried the one that works.

Video Card works fine on other PC about the same Spec's

I have done everything but set it on fire with no fix.

    System Configuration
    1. OS-Vista Ultimate 32bit (Clean install)
    2. Video-EVGA 8800 GTS 512mb (replaced)
    3. Asus MotherBoard-M2N Sli Deluxe nForce 570 (tried latest Bios and reverted Back same effect)
    4. Memory-OCZ DDR2 #OCZ2VU8002GK 4GB, DUAL-matching pairs 1GB x 4 (Replaced same effect tried 2GB and 4GB)
    5. Processor-AMD 6000 3ghz dual core (not over clocked)
    6. Hard Drive-WD 160 (have tried different drive same effect)
    7. Bios-Phoenix Technologies, LTD-ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe BIOS REVISION 1502 (Reverted back to no Effect)
    8. Video Drivers-NVIDIA Version 175.19, 05/16/2008 (tried them all)
    9. Power Supply-600 watt SLI

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 91310a84, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000000, bitfield :
    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: 81ac3dc9, address which referenced memory

When you start up, what screens you see? Is it black from startup? Do you see the (Asus) splash screen? Do you see the Vista loading screen?

Does there happen to be a flashing cursor at the top left of the black screen?

No i see nothing but black all the way, I do hear, sometimes Vista logon sounds, so I know it does boot all the way to the logon screen. like I mentioned I have replaced everthing but the motherboard. And the Video card works fine on another machine. Also this is a new Monitor to so its not that, does it on any monitor. I just updated the nForce drivers so maybe that was it, these are newer than the ones i had been using.

I do get the error code beeps, which i forgot to mention.

1 long> 3 short beeps, I looked it up for Award Bios and it says Memory error and some place it says Video error. I have replaced the memory and tried different brands with the same effect. Beginning to think my motherboard is junk, again, i had it replace also a few months ago before this problem. This Problem did not start until i purchased this Video card. EVGA 8800 GTS 512mb.

Ok, I updated the nForce Drivers to version 15.23 from NVIDIA, and this did not fix the problem, Windows Vista boots up with Black Screen all the way, I can hear the Windows logo sounds play, just no screen (Black) no cursor or anything, I hit the reset button and it will boot up fine.

Error code Beeps>>>> 1 long 3 short beeps.

Without checking, those beeps would most likely be related to graphics. Since you have checked that the video card works on another computer, there seems to be a problem with the combination on that motherboard.

Since it seems to work OK(?) when you restart, my guess is that the motherboard is having trouble setting the resources for the graphics at start-up.

Do you have any add-in PCI cards? Try removing them. Start up with just the basics connected (disconnect printers, memory sticks, external drives, etc, etc).

Have you made any changes in the BIOS (Start-up Settings)? You should "Clear the CMOS ", read how to do it in the motherboard manual.

Do you have all the correct power connections for the video card? Is there any extra power connector on the motherboard you may have missed?

    Matt
[I will move this to the Hardware forum, since the problem occurs before Vista loads.]

I have had the BIOS at normal settings, overclocked a little, under clocked a little and reverted back to older versions.

I have unplugged everything even the extra fans on the case, only thing i left on was the Bear essentials. I believe it is the Mother board, when it does it again I am going to leave it booted in the Black Screen and Remote Desktop to it and see what happens, Then I am going to put the Video card on the other PCIE Slot which is only 8x and see if the problem persists. It could be a bad PCIE X16 socket. I want to find the problem so all of us will know what to do in this situation in the future. I just hate not being able to solve this.

Thanks for your help, I will solve it one way or another :):D:eek::eek:

I'd start by testing the memory. Run Memtest86 or Windows Memory Diagnostic.

I tested memory and no faults, This memory has already been replaced due to this problem. I have also tried known good working Memory and problem still persists.
The only thing i can figure is the motherboard is bad or just the PCIE 16x socket has a fault somewhere. I will try to move the Video Card to the 8X PCIE slot and see what happens, this may take a day or 2.

I did Remote desktop to the PC while it was in Black screen mode and it works fine with no fault, Clarity is just fine even on 32bit high resolution. Not sure it that matters or not!

I have an Abit motherboard with the same chipset (570). There was a setting in the BIOS for using a single graphics card or SLI mode.

Check the motherboard manual for any instructions regarding the graphics. Did you get to Clear the CMOS?

I haven't seen it much recently, but the graphics card may be incompatible. Can you find another graphics card to try on it? If that card did not work, I would agree that you should replace the motherboard.

I am not sure what you mean by Clearing the CMOS, I know what it is, but I just updated the bios 2 days ago, I would think that, that would take care of Clearing it. I have done everything to the BIOS except take the chip out and throw it in the trash. I believe that you are correct >>Video Card not compatible with this Motherboard<< Let move the pins on the board and clear it and check the settings. I know this board almost like the back of my hand, but maybe I missed somthing. What a "pain in the you know what" !!!! I have had other video cards in this and no problems. I will give it 2 more days of trying, already been several months or more. Friday Im chunking it in the garbage, or give it to someone i dont like lol.

And guess what? It will probably work like a dream for them :D

"Clear the CMOS" is usually carried out by swapping a jumper on the motherboard from pins 1-2 to 2-3, for a several seconds. Some motherboards don't have those set of pins and clearing the CMOS is done by removing the CMOS battery for a certain amount of time (I suggest 30 minutes). Either way, read through the motherboard manual as though you had just built the system and it was not working as expected.

It won't work at startup, after it restarts (warm Boot)...then works fine(?). The problem seems to be to me when the BIOS allocates the resources for the hardware on the initial startup. You could try going into the BIOS and disabling onboard hardware, like the audio, USB, Firewire or the LAN/Ethernet (Serial or Parallel ports, if they are listed). If you find it is say, a clash with the Ethernet, you could get a PCI Ethernet card.

No amount of driver updates will influence what happens when the computer is started. Drivers aren't loaded until Windows loads them. At startup the BIOS is in control, Windows takes control when it is loaded from the HDD.

That is what i came up with also, but the video card has not problems in my other PC's. So it has to be a problem on Mother board, or something dont agree with it. Conflict of hardware. I put the CPU, Memory and Video card in my other AMD PC and ran it for 2 months with no problems, so it has to be the Board I am running it on now (ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe).

Your rite Matt, the thing is it may not do it on every boot, I thought i had it fixed several times, but everytime i go by what it should be and the errors indicate that it is, it turns out thats not it at all. I will clear the CMOS, dissable everything on board and try it. I need to just write it off as Mother board not compatible and buy a new one, different brand of coarse. But I have been so busy spending money on my college its hard to do that. I am taking Administrative Networking and I am almost done. Even with what i have learned in the last 10 years doing repairs and school you would think I would know the problem without even testing it lol. 35K for school and I cant fix my own PC, just glad its not a customers  :cool:

This motherboard (Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe) has been discontinued and upgraded to this model number (Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe GR) you notice the GR at the end of model number, so what I gather is, is that there is a problem with the (Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe) and i have had this board fixed once and a friend of mine had one and had it fixed also.

Board is not compatible with my Video Card EVGA 8800 GTS 512mb, So time to scrape the board ad buy another one.

I want to thank everyone for all your help and Ideas, I have done everthing possible to solve this and it just can't be fixed without a New MotherBoard.

Thank you again, The Video Cards I have had on this board is, ATI X800XL 265mb, BFG 8600GTS 512mb, EVGA 7900GTX 512mb and they all work fine. But not the EVGA 8800 GTS 512 it doesn't work.
This is just incase someone needs reference to what i know will work on the ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe.
Have a good day, I will be back to help and with more problems I am sure, I have been messing around with PC's for almost 10 yrs so I hope I can contribute in some way.

    Jake

I found the problem, It is the NVIDIA Chipset Drivers.
Problem is the NETWORK DRIVERS for the 570 Chipste will not work. I have uninstalled them and ran it for 3 days with not problems. You have to use the Network Drivers that come packed in Vista on the OS install.

I presently disabled the Nework drivers and unistalled the NVIDIA drivers. And installed a seperate network card (Linksys seems to work fine).

YOU MUST USE A DRIVER CLEANER if you dont and uninstall the NVIDIA drivers it leaves half of them behind and you will still have the problem. Make sure you use "Driver Sweeper" and remove all registry entrys and do not let windows update reinstall them.

Hope this helps some of you. Cant believe this was it....
