I have a machine running Windows 2000 Professional (Workstation), which had an original CD-ROM drive, a CD "burner" (not rewritable), and an original HD. After installing a second HD (which shows up okay), the machine can no longer "see" the old CD-ROM.

The MSCDEX.EXE file for the device seems to have gone missing, so I'm assuming that I need to reinstall the drivers. The CD-ROM in question is a Sony CDU-4811. Sony does not have Win2K drivers for this device on its homepage. Any ideas on how I can get my CD-ROM back?

    Thanks in advance...

acelightning: I did a Google search and found one site that deals specifically with what you need, but it crashed my Netscape every time I clicked the link. Another site seems more promising and it lists the driver you mentioned. Good luck.

Bobbo, the link you gave me seems to have drivers for everything BUT my particular combination of hardware (Sony CDU-4811) and O/S (Windows 2000 Professional). If you give me the URL that crashed Netscape, I'll have my partner try it in IE. Thanks.

acelightning: I didn't test it this time, because I've gotten tired of the link crashing my Netscape, but I think this is the one. Whether it's going to turn out to contain what you want or is just someone talking about the issue, remains to be seen.

The driver on Sony cdu-4811 for Win2000 is necessary.

That is from a Google search, so if it doesn't come through as a working link (and from checking the reply Preview, it doesn't look as though it will), you'll be able to find it yourself. It's one of the first ones on the first page that comes up when you enter "Sony CDU-4811" in the Google search window.

So, try it and get back to us with the results.

BTW, have you considered downloading the Win98 version of the driver to see if it will work with your Win 2000?
