Everytime I try to use Window's Update page I get 'Internet Explorer can not access this page' and returns to the previous webpage.

Auto updates are not working either.

Here are a few things to try:

    1. Go to Internet Options > Security Tab, click 'Trusted sites' icon, click Sites then uncheck 'Require server verification'. Now add these 2 sites http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and http://*.windowsupdate.com.
    Click Close, Apply and OK.

    2. Unable to install Windows updates, have a look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555461/en-us

    3. This may fix some problems with Windows Update but it will erase your history as shown on the Windows Update website. This is because the update folder is effectively removed. Go to Administrative Tools > Services and stop the Automatic Updates service. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\WINDOWS, right-click and Delete the folder SoftwareDistribution or if you’re nervous about deleting the folder, Rename it to, say, SoftwareDistributionOLD. Start the Automatic Updates service via Administrative Tools > Services and try Windows Update again.

    Hey BurrWalnut,

#1 was done but no change.

No folders from #2 were found to delete.

#3 were completed and no change.

    Thanks

Adding to what Burrwlanut said, download dial a fix and extract the files. Then run the program and check the boxes that say fix windows update. Click the Go button and let it fix windows update. Also delete your Temporary Internet Files by opening internet explorer and clicking tools< delete browsing history.

If you still can't access windows update after performing the above steps then download and run WinSock Fix from here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html.
