    Hi All;

    I installed the latest stable release of apache2 and it works when I use the test html file supplied with the install, but all I get is a 404 error when I try to use an html file that I created. The error log says that my html file cannot be found, but it is in the same folder as the test html file. (The error log entry lists the entire path/filename of what apache is trying access and it is correct). The only thing I can see that is different between the test html file and my html file is the file type. The test html file is shown as an HTML Document and my file is listed as an HTML File.
    Is there a way to designate or create specific file types?

    I have a feeling you may have the wrong file extension for your file or in the web address.

    Are you able to see the file extensions in an explorer window?

    Yes it does make a difference, in the web address, whether you type in HTM or HTML.

    Bilb0,

    You are correct, it was the wrong file extension. It shows as an HTML file in the explorer window but looking at it from the Command Prompt window shows it with a .html~ extension. Turns out since I edited it with the Vim editor it adds the ~ to an updated file and that is what was placed in the apache htdocs folder.
