    Hi,

my second computer, running xp pro sp3 is caught in a boot loop.

That happened after my antivirus program (bitdefender) caught multiple viruses after opening a file. The computer shut itself down; boot loop started.

If I would be able to get into windows, I believe the problem would be solved quickly.

alas, there are several obstacles on the way to windows:

    - boot loop
    - hitting F8 will bring up the boot screen, but then I have no keyboard functionality, meaning I cannot select safe mode or anything else
    - I can get into the BIOS and make selections there (keyboard works). Computer is set to boot from CD. But booting from CD for some reason does not work. The windows CD is in the cd-drive.

I would have no problem reinstalling windows since all the data I want to keep on that computer is on a second drive.
The drive that has windows on has two partitions. I read this might have something to do with windows not being able to see the partition with windows on.

    Help needed, totally stuck here.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi heyuta

    In BIOS enable USB Legacy!

    That don't work!

The next logical thing to do is beg borrow or steal a wired PS/2 keyboard.

I am assuming you have a USB keyboard.

    Hi Mike,

    thank you for your reply.

I checked the BIOS and couldn't find USB legacy- where should I find it?

I had tried an adapter for the keyboard but then I lost all functionality.

So no other options before I try to locate a PS2 keyboard?

    thanks

Hi, I got an old keyboard from my dad. While the computer was still in a boot loop, and I couldn't start windows even in safe mode, I can now repair/ reinstall windows.

Computer is rebooting as I'm styping; to complete setup.

Thank you for your help! :)
