When attempting to install the latest version of MS XML Core service 4.x using the latest download from MS, I get error message, "Error opening installation log file. Verify that specified log file location exists and is writable ". The file is msxm;4-kb9361891-enu.exe. How to I correct this problem?

Hi Bobengel. Have you tried downloading that update manually from the Microsoft update website? Also do you recieve an error code at all or just that error message that you stated in your post?

I downloaded the file directly from Microsoft. There was no error code included in the error message. The URL is:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f5-cb46-43df-a2b8-185639ba2807&displayLang=en and relates to Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181).

The update was obtained manually and not part of the automatic updates. A driver scan utility indicated that my current files were not updated and pointed to the MS website.
