So I just installed windows xp 64 bit on a monster system designed for AutoCad. The motherboard is a Intel DX48BT2.

I had the system running fine but when I installed drivers from the driver CD Intel provided, I lost all USB support in windows. So I have keyboard and mouse up to the time that Windows starts booting up (like in BIOS). I'm running WinXP 64 bit for the first time, with only SP1 installed. As far as I can tell, once windows starts, none of the USB works at all, so I can't even log in. A hopefully useful fact I noticed is that my optical mouse is lit up until in hits the Winxp x64 booting screen, where the light goes out. No amount of plugging and unplugging and switching USB devices has worked, and I've tried another mouse as well. I also just tried disabling legacy USB from the BIOS, with no discernible change.

Also, I've got a KVM running that connects through a USB and VGA connector. If I unplug the USB portion; no video. But it's not letting the USB devices work either. And yes, I have tried connecting everything directly.

So I'm stumped. Any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciated!

Well, I just reloaded the system so it's moot now, but does anyone know what might have caused this?

    Thanks again.

    The following thread ....
    ** OFFICIAL ** Intel DX38BT & DX48BT2 BoneTrail Thread

It's 65 pages long, 1601 posts, 96,961 views and counting).
This is a search against this thread for UBS issues. An additional concern is running XP-64 bit ... this never developed a strong industry following for driver support. I can only guess you are not running Vista-64 bit (which has better driver support) because your version of Autocad is not supported in Vista(?)

    fallout of politics

I think we're not running Vista because some/all of the programs this CAD user needs aren't supported. As it is we're having to hack the AutoCAD .msi files to get it to work. This is an ultra-finicky $5000 computer, and they wanted 8GB of RAM. Anyway, that's one monster of a thread, but thanks for the pointer. I'll go through it when I get some breathing room.

Just glanced through official Intel thread and with MOBO's less than a year old BIOS and drivers are going to be a challenging hike. Mixing in a program as demanding and robust as AutoCAD, this must keep you on your toes ... to the point of pain. When you where configuring this machine / your version of AutoCAD/XP-64, did AutoCAD have any hardware suggestions?

Actually this batch of hardware is pretty close to what was recommended. Our reseller recommended a Dell brand machine for about $7k and we realized we could build it for about 5K. Unfortunately, I wasn't involved in directly picking out the parts. This is actually the second one of these monsters to go out, but it took our boss over a week to get the first one working properly, and now I know why. I swear, this tower has become the sanctified dwelling place of Murphy himself.

Without knowing the "exact requirements" for machine (1) and machine (2) ... but if at all possible would have built machine (2) as a hardware/software clone against machine (1) . Then just imaged the HDD (from machine 1 to machine 2). ... but Murphy and customers never let the "easy" happen.
