router to speed up internet connection

hello everybody! I'm having a problem with my internet, I'm a globe broadband subscriber with a zte mf600 modem, I suppose to have a 512kbps as I'm paying for and got 90-140kbps in result, I've just upgraded my pc to Intel dual core 2.2ghz with 2g of ram hoping to speed up my internet connection, do I have to buy a router even if I only using a single pc? anybody have an idea to resolve my problem, I already tried to use some accelerator but I guess it does'nt work for me.

 

A Router has nothing to do with the speed you get thru the Modem.

All a Router does is route!

Your issue is either with the Modem itself or the ISP! Call them!

Sorry! But don't waste your money on a Router until you have 2 or more computers.

the router will not speed up your internet connection
The 10/100 speed max of the router is way faster than any internet connection
Routers may help in reducing spyware infestation
I know this anecdotally
Routers may also serve as a security barrier to some degree
Those trying to break in see the router but do not know what is behind the door / router
Two points -
1) if you have a cable connection try tips at www.askmarvin.ca
2) open dns may be of help
