Can't Uninstall Avast AV

I have a strange problem, can't uninstall Avast 4.8 Home edition. I did try to uninstall it from my Windows Add/Remove and its not showing in the Control Panel but its in my PC. Still spinning away down by the clock, etc. Any ideas???

After running Virginia's post do the below:

Search the HD activate Advanced to include Hidden system and subfolders for.

avast*.*

and remove all found

Then Regseeker find in Registry for

avast

Then follow with a general registry clean with Regseeker or CCleaner or your choice registry cleaner.

Before reinstalling or installing a new Virus scanner.

Virginia and MFLYNN I downloaded the AV removal tool but I can't get it to work. I'm just having trouble figuring it out I'll keep trying to remove Avast....

try reinstalling
reboot
then try to uninstall again
Perhaps system restore can take you back before the install ?
You can find the program at downloads.com
If not go the avast website and ask

 

OK if the Tool does not run then use my cleanup procedure alone.

It should do the job.

Hello visionof & mflynn, I reinstalled avast then tried to uninstall it but nope You have all been great but I just can't get it to completely uninstall.
I'm going to install Avira Antivir and use that. The Avast icons are no longer in the tray by the clock or in the Add/Remove part of Control Panel.
