    Long version
    =========
    Upgraded the guts of my system to an Acorp i815 board w/dual Socket370 PIIIs @ 1GHz (not overclocked, clock speed on the board is at 100MHz; limited by RAM until I get my new stick). Attempted to use new Maxtor 80G HD as a brand new install for XP. Partitioned it but the setup program didn't like the drive. Then tried my old WD 15G slave drive as primary, repartitioned it, and XP started to install. It then required rebooting and right after the WinXP splash screen show up, I get the blue screen w/white text.

    Says something to the effect of a "hard drive possibly being corrupt, to check for errors and viruses. Run chkdsk /f on the bad drive. If this is the first time seeing this message, please restart your machine..." Blah blah blah..

    I then put in my old primary Maxtor 5G HD that runs Win98SE and it boots fine?! Jumpers are set properly. Ran both WD's and Maxtor's harddrive disk doctors and they both came out fine.

    Short version
    =========
    Upgraded mobo/cpus/hd and attempting initial install of XP. Does not screen upon system reboot. Monitor light is green, inidicating system is okay and num lock will toggle. Sys will boot with old hd using Win98SE.

    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated??!?!?!?

    For clarification - did you partition, format, etc. from the XP install CD?

    Also, is this a store-bought copy or a burned copy? I've seen the home-burned XP install CDs act just as you describe.

    Partitioned/Formatted via XP CD

    Funny you should mention the second point. Asking around, I found someone here that had the exact same problem with his home-burned copy too.

    Hi,

    Before anything else I would suggest to upgrade your BIOS. During the early stages of booting, check your BIOS version, date, etc. and the visit the MB site and check for upgrades. My initial problem with XP was exactly what you describe though my motherboard is a Gygabyte...

    Good luck!

    PDubs - bios flash good idea.

    As to the burned copies, we tried to make a couple of backup copies since we had a corp. license for XP and only having one CD around was not a good thing. I seem to remember we made around a dozen or so little coasters/frisbees before we finally got one that would work. Same situation. Load would start and look fine but when it said "reboot to continue ", that was all she wrote.

    Bios flash is a good idea, thanks! I didn't even think of that. Sounds like similar problems everywhere. I've decided to stick with Win2K for now. That is, until WinXP server comes out. :)
